On October 31, 2010, Devon Griffin wondered where his family was. Devon went to check on his mom and stepdad, but they were still in bed with the comforter pulled up over their heads. Devon started talking to wake his mom. He walked around to her side of the bed, saw her foot sticking out of the comforter, and tapped her leg to rouse her, but there was no response. Devon continued talking to his mother, as he pulled the covers down a bit, before stopping – her pillow was soaked with red liquid – it looked like blood. Confused, he wondered if this was a messed-up Halloween prank. It wasn’t. His mother and stepfather were truly covered in blood. He was scared and he started to cry. In his panicked state, he ran out of the house for help, not thinking to check on his brother upstairs, but that was probably for the best, as the scene in his room was even more gruesome…
